There is one problem that many scrapbookers when they start creating albums, especially beginners. They get overwhelmed with their page design layouts. Rather than try for simple scrapbook layouts they often try to cram every detail and every embellishment they like on one page. With too many page elements and journaling on a page, it’s easy for your layout to look overwhelming or too busy. Pages for a baby layout can use only a simple word like Precious or Love or a brief phrase like Mommy’s Little One or Apple of My Eye. When you choose to use brief sayings or a word or two, a simple scrapbook layouts is even more powerful since they are able to stand out clearly.

Sometimes you can get scrapbooking ideas for simple scrapbook layouts from websites and other experienced scrappers, but you really need to keep your eyes open when looking at these pages. Try to notice what keeps them simple but appealing. Is it the journaling, the page elements or something else? If you really examine these page layouts and really try to critique them, you will learn how to make your own simple scrapbook layouts instead of trying to put too many items on a page creating messy, unbalanced, overcrowded pages!
